Spanish women

Following on from my last post, I've been looking for examples of the classic old lady helmet-hair and box-shaped top to put on the blog. Unfortunately when you type "old-style Spanish women" into Google Images, you get something like this (top left). I couldn't find a really good example of the Alpujarran lacquer carapace. The nearest I could get was this below, complete with a crutch or two for good measure; you get the idea.

Hi!
My name is Jesús, I am Spanish, I am from Granada but right now I live in Majorca, and I found your blog very interesting -I've always wanted to know what british people think about deep-andalousian traditions-.

I just wanted to leave a message because I laughed for a long while with your definition of the typical hair of Spanish grandmas ("the classic old lady helmet-hair and box-shaped top").
My own theory is that such style protect their head from the direct sun in Summer (and keeps the mind fresh) and keeps the warm during the hard Winter -and even puts away the snow-, like a hut or the rural typical "boina" (you should get one for you, shouldn't you? jeje). Perhaps that balance lets our gradmas to feel kind and charming anytime (unless you refuse to eat their "puchero"...then you better run and hide, my friend...)

I hope you enjoy our customs and traditions and feel at home in Las Alpujarras; I whish you all the best with your house in Juviles, lots of visitors and plenty of good weather.

Best regards,

Jesús Cuenca

Thanks Jesus, I really appreciate your interest and support. Please keep looking - I update every week or more - and I'd be delighted if you would tell other people. Do you have your own blog or any links you'd like to see on mine?
